A custom home designed and manufactured by Honest Abe was the first log home to ever be featured on The Smith Mountain Lake Charity Home Tours, a 30-year-old event that helps the local community while showcasing some the area’s most beautiful homes.
“The home of Linda and Chuck Howlett attracted a lot of positive attention,” said Jack Hutslar, the Honest Abe Independent Dealer who helped the retired couple realize their dream of living on a lake in a log home.
Hutslar, owner of www.LogHomesByJack.com, explained that the annual tour is a community fund drive that supports critical services for those in need in the Smith Mountain Lake region in southwest Virginia.
The tour accomplishes this through partnerships with volunteers, charities, businesses and individuals. Over the past 30 years the event as provided $4 million to local charity operations.
The tour promotion summed up the Howlett home by stating, “Surrounded by five acres of woods, the inviting front porch meets a breezeway on the side that continues to the deck on the back. Inside there’s no dry wall. Ceilings and walls are all pine with contrasting dark beams and dark kitchen cabinets. The couple worked in foreign locations, acquiring many treasures. The resulting style is “rustic meets exotic.” Note the homeowner’s Marine memorabilia and mounted hunting trophies. Count the many bear decorations you find.”
