Relishing the Spirits with a Home Bar

Honest Abe homeowners often request that a bar be included in their plans. That’s easy for our designers to do, but there are several major decisions that must be made before the floor plan is finalized to ensure that the area is ready for all the desired amenities.

Bars can be wet or dry, have appliances or special lighting, be wired for electronics…in fact, be as customized as you want. The material choices can range from sleek metal to repurposed vintage to traditional wood.

Here we’re presenting five bars in the homes of Honest Abe customers to give you some ideas for your own bar, whether it’s a juice bar for the grand kids, a serving bar for family events or full-service bar for those who enjoy adult beverages.

 Tips

Fencing options have evolved over the years both in terms of materials and design, and as shown in the photos to the left of an Honest Abe log home, gates can do much more than serve as a passage way. They can express the personality of the home or farm owner.

Garden on the Hill

Honest Abe homeowners plant with a purpose.

Southern Fried Okra

Okra, they say, is an acquired taste. How can that be? It’s mild and delisious – a true Southern delicacy. There are many ways to prepare okra, but any Southern mama knows how to make it so everyone in the house is happy – batter it and fry it.

The Pinehurst, a Mid-sized Custom Cottage

From the exterior the Pinehurst looks like a very traditional log cabin. However, the 1,975 SF house has three bedrooms and 2.5 baths on two floors. A full-length covered porch spans the façade, and a single offset dormer adds interest to the roofline.

The cabin is entered through a great room that is open to the dining area and kitchen. The master bedroom on the first floor has an accompanying luxury bath suite and walk-in closet.

Just off the dining room and kitchen is a powder room and separate laundry with built-in storage.

Upstairs the loft area is open to the great room below. There are two bedrooms and a full bathroom in the hall.
