A Place for Mother

Honest Abe Log Homes customer, Denise, and her husband, Peter, changed their lives dramatically when they moved from Rhode Island to the Appalachian mountains of Upper East Tennessee in 2007.

Denise’s mother, Rita, who is now 88, did not want to stay behind. Of course Denise did not want to be so far from her mother either.

Pinto Beans with Sausage and Spices

Pinto beans are a Southern staple, but Honest Abe Dealer Manager David Everitt has added his own spicy twist to the perennial favorite while using his Instant Pot to speed the cooking process.

The Wilmington – affordable and expandable

If you’re looking for a mid-sized log home that could easily be expanded as a young family grows or accommodate a retired couple as they age, the 1,600-square-foot Wilmington Plan is an excellent selection.

This one-story plan has an open great room and living room with a fireplace in the center. off to the right is a spacious kitchen with an island and a utility room concealed by folding doors. The attached two-car garage is accessible through the kitchen.

Three bedrooms and two full baths are located down a hallway, which can be widened for easy wheelchair or walker mobility. One bedroom extends from the end of the house, making it ideal for an office that could be accessed through an optional private door or a safe space as designed for an aging parent or babies or young children.

A covered porch extends the length of the main home. The rear lends itself to addition of a full-length wide deck or another covered porch. Depending on the land slope, a basement could add even more space for storage, a game or craft room or a den.

That’s the beauty of working directly with a log home manufacturer like Honest Abe. Any plan can be modified with the customizations needed to fit a homeowner’s needs over the years.
