Escape to a Small Town
Beth Louie and Andy Smith welcome family and friends from across the country to their new Honest Abe log home.
The historic community of Lynnville, Tennessee, gained a new physician and two new residents in 2019 when Dr. Elizabeth Louie and her husband, Andrew Smith, relocated permanently from south Florida to live in the home of their dreams manufactured by Honest Abe Log Homes.
“We wanted to live in the country and have always enjoyed the rustic nature of a log home,” said Andy, who worked with Honest Abe Log Homes sales representative David Mathis and in-house designer Michael Hix to modify a standard Honest Abe Navajo plan into their ideal floor plan.
Above ground, the home is constructed of dovetailed, 12” eastern white pine D-logs. Exposed areas of the full, walk-out basement’s exterior are veneered with stone.
The couple chose a heavy timber roof system with Douglas fir beams in the living room/loft area, while other main floor rooms are covered by a conventional truss system.

The Williams – small but spacious
If you’re looking for a small log home plan for your main residence or a vacation home, the Williams plan is both practical and economical.
It can also be created as a log or timber frame home. The design of the Williams lends itself to either a heavy timber or conventional truss roof system.
At 1,352 square feet, the Williams has two bedrooms, each with its own full bath, a great room and a kitchen.
Between the garage and the main living space there’s a third bathroom with a combination mudroom and laundry room.
A door from the covered full-length front porch opens directly into the garage. Another covered full-length porch is accessed in the rear from the kitchen.
Money Saving Tip: Choose log siding for the garage and reserve your logs for the main home. This will save money, and Honest Abe can make the log siding look exactly like the full logs used in the home’s construction.
The garage is situated at an angle to the main house, giving it a three-dimensional look. There are two full-length porches, which extended the living space to the outdoors.
