Creating a Log Home for a Loved One

Sometimes a loved one unexpectedly needs you more than you could ever have imagined. That’s what happened to Rick and Wanda Denton when their son, David, was disabled in a motorcycle accident.

Twenty-one years ago the Dentons helped their son have the log cabin of his dreams located safely and conveniently on their farm.

Rick, who was Honest Abe’s first president, shared the family’s story with Honest Abe Living is hopes that others will be encouraged and inspired.

Sweet Potato Souffle

In honor of Father’s Day, Janie Smith, who along with her late husband, Doug Smith, founded Honest Abe Log Homes in 1979, shares a recipe for turning a humble sweet potato into Sweet Potato Souffle. Janie, daughter April and son Shane own and operate Honest Abe. Special occasions with Janie’s family are celebrated with beloved family dishes like sweet potato souffle, which was her husband’s favorite dish.

The Jackson – a mid-sized cabin plan

The Jackson is an 1,184 SF floor plan with 3 bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms. The main floor’s large living room, dining room and kitchen open onto a full length, covered front porch and a full length back deck. Upstairs there’s a master bedroom and luxury bath. The finished walkout basement has a den that opens onto a patio. Two bedrooms, a full bath and a separate utility room complete the finished basement plan. Like all Honest Abe Log Homes plans, the Jackson can be manufactured as a log cabin, timber frame home or a hybrid using a mix of building materials.
