Continuing the Lake Tradition
Terry Corpening moved into his log cabin on a North Carolina lake in 2017. He shared his experience and offered advice for log cabin lovers who, like him, have always dreamed of living in a log home.
This hound is ready for autumn in a dovetailed D-log lakeside cabin in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina.
Terry grew up in the Hickory, N.C., approximately 15 minutes from his new Honest Abe Log Homes’ lake cabin.
“My family always had a boat, and I grew up around the lake constantly,” Terry said. “So, for me being on and near water is a lifestyle. My children grew up on the lake, and/or in a pool their entire lives as well. I consider the lake cabin a family retreat. My parents started it, and I want to continue the tradition.”
Terry said he’s enjoying having the people he loves visit just like his own parents did all those years they had a vacation trailer on the property.
“It may be my personal residence, but I’ve encouraged all of my family to come and enjoy it as much as they can,” Terry said.

Faith Hill’s Coca Cola Cake
In 2001 WSM Radio collected recipes from music celebrities for Honest Abe’s Cookin for the Cure book that raised money to help local victims of cancer. Faith Hill submitted her recipe for Coca Cola Cake, a made-from-scratch concoction that celebrates chocolate and America’s oldest soft drink.

Honest Abe’s Cookin’ for the Cure
In the early 2000s Honest Abe published a cookbook to benefit the National Cancer Awareness Foundation, a organization that supports patients and families battling cancer.
The book was so popular it went into a second printing. Proceeds benefited cancer victims who were Honest Abe dealers, company employees, suppliers, customers and local cancer patients in our home community.
Honest Abe’s first president, Rick Denton, shares the story of how hundreds of recipes were collected for this successful project. Read it here.
