A variety of log and timber frame homes will be open to the public on Aug. 25 during a fall tour hosted by Honest Abe Log Homes Cookeville.
“We believe the seven homes open for the tour are perfect to show visitors how flexible and beautiful a wood home can be,” said Greg Watson, a sales representative at Honest Abe Cookeville who’s spent almost a quarter century with the company.
Watson said that the tour includes five log homes of different sizes constructed across three decades. One of these is a 3,800-square-foot, two-story house in rural Putnam County, Tennessee, that was built 12 years ago after George and Patty Thomas lost their 100-year-old historic residence filled with treasured primitive antiques to fire.
The Thomases soon created an original design for their new home, and Honest Abe was selected to draft the plans and provide the custom log home package.
“While our Honest Abe Log Home was being built, we lived in the guest house,” Patty recalled, explaining that the rustic log structure will be included during the tour of their new home along with a log play house and summer house created with logs preserved from historic structures.
A visit to the Thomas property will include a tour of their Honest Abe Log Home, above, as well access to their historic log guest house, summer house and playhouse.
